about

A strange turn on the path of life lead me to the Pennsylvania countryside, a place that I lived during younger years of my life. I found the isolation of pandemic times extended into a seemingly interminable stretch of days, nights, twilight hours, and sunrises, all blurred together by chronic insomnia. Despite pollution and ecological violence, the land embraced me with reaching tree branches and bird-song insect-symphony sound-fields; meanwhile humans in the area set things on fire and ruptured the quietude via gun shots and automobiles. I unexpectedly fell in love. I journeyed to inner realms and sought personal transformation, gathered sounds and sought outward expression, and on occasion escaped to the strange comfort-in-chaos of city life.
Here then is my offering: an album of quiet turmoil, of inner-outer space cosmic drone, of mourning and solace. Some elements were recorded in Oakland, CA (including most of "Scanner III"), but for the large part it was recorded in the haunted lands of Lancaster county, PA. Travel well, time is long, time is short, time is meaningless.

Hagan's solo work seeks to meld extended vocal techniques with synthesizer-based drones and alien sound environments - elegies for a burning, flooding world, still lit by flickering moments of grace. ... more
